Day 55-56 Jabiru, Kakadu NP - 2-3 Aug 2009

9121kms, 34 degrees C

Jabiru is a town attached to a mine. The Ranger Uranium Mine (more of that later) is the reason the town is here. It is also nowadays a tourist hub for many Kakadu sites, which are a bit separated. You would not normally visit Jabiru for its own sake....

...but we had a few things to report on. We met up with a few fellow Parkvillians – John and Mimi Price joined us for some fun in Kaks, and we finally met up with Frank and Brenda Frok, who are in the process of running around Australia but in the opposite direction to us. We have been chatting on Skype and e mail, but finally the moons aligned. We met up for drinkies at beer o’clock and the Froks put on a spread that looked fresh from Queen Vic Market, complete with freshly cooked Barramundi caught by Frank at Daly River. It was great to catch up.

And we had the camp site dingo want to join the party. We were told not to feed them but someone did, so the dingo set up camp next to Franks you beaut fifth wheeler palace.
