Day 48-49 Douglas Daly Rivers - 26-27 July 2009

8634kms, 34 degrees C

Douglas Daly is a region where the Douglas and Daly rivers meet, just North of Pine Creek, between Katherine and Darwin. We stayed at the Douglas Daly Tourist Park, which was awesome. There was heaps of wildlife right in the park. Nicky took a millions shots of birds of which two are probably recognisable - the Yellow Oriole and Lemon Bellied Flycatcher. But the wallaby who showed a great deal of interest in the snags on our camp fire was truly awesome.
Yes, there were more gorges and thermal springs, but the latter were hot. The water comes out of the ground at 60 degrees C. Ouch - no skinny dipping in there...

...but maybe elsewhere! We realise that this is meant to be a family viewing blog but Stuey’s arse had to make an appearance for many reasons. First we read that the porn industry is suffering with the global downturn – this is his attempt to help it along. God help it! Second we were in the wonderful Butterfly Gorge and Stuey forgot his swimmers. We were there bright and early, so in he went. The only minor problem was on the way back, just coming out of the water a nice clean living family entered the gorge! And thirdly Mrs Kilpatrick will be chuffed at a spot of skinny dipping, after all those years doing the same in Tavy Cleave on Dartmoor. We swam thro a narrow gorge onto a series of other gorges beyond the rocks in the distance. Stuey (naked) lead, Nicky following --it will be a while before the latter recovers from the shock of her ordeal!!
